Dispersed camping was designated by the national forest service as Camping outside a designated campground and most commonly refers to camping in your car along a roadside.
Today it incorporates Blm Lands as well, it’s camping without cost, because there are no services available as there are in designated campgrounds, no garbage, bathrooms, or water services are provided in Dispersed camping sites.
these are located throughout our national forests and public lands managed by BLM they generally consist of just a fire ring and a place to park and they do not cost to camp.
typically you can stay a maximum of 14 days in a location both in the national forest and BLM public lands, the length of stay varies by state so please check your state’s maximum stay.
Dispersed camping has become very popular and even now I see some roads and lands being barricaded off due to trash accumulation, so please be responsible when camping in dispersed camping locations as our use of this public land can be restricted and often are because of trash and bullet casings, etc.
Should we all do our part these public lands will remain available for generations, but if we continue to be irresponsible we may find we can no longer access these lands.
Dispersed camping is a wonderful way to get out and even travel in this great country of ours bringing a cost-free alternative to everyone.
